Wastewater Services and Reports
The City of Brantford is responsible for collecting and treating wastewater (sewage) from all drain pipes in your home and maintains all sanitary sewers located under city streets or easements through regular repairs and inspections. Our wastewater collection system ensures the safe delivery of sewage to the Wastewater Treatment Plant where it receives high quality treatment to remove contaminants and sanitize before being discharged back to the Grand River.
For more information, review the 2023 Wastewater System Annual Summary Report and 2023 Collection System Annual Report.
Our Wastewater Compliance Division works closely with Wastewater Treatment Plant staff and industrial, commercial and institutional customers and the public at large to help ensure safe operation of the wastewater treatment plant in accordance with our Sewer Use Bylaw.
Wastewater Collection Programs
We also have several wastewater programs to help you keep your pipes running clear and avoid wastewater-related issues.
The Environmental Services Department inspects sanitary manholes and sewer lines with CCTV (Closed Circuit Television) to ensure lines are free of debris and repairs any deficiencies. If a resident experiences a sewer blockage or backup, the City's Customer Services Department can be notified at 519-756-1360 24 hours/day, 7 days/week. For more details, see information on Sewer Lateral Blockages and Residential Grease.
Flushing of sanitary main sewer lines is done on a regular basis - if we happen to be flushing in your area and a sewer gas smell occurs, notify Customer Services at 519-756-1360 and open windows if possible. Because the issue is usually a venting problem in the house, it is recommended that you put water down any floor drains and run water in all of your sinks in order to put water back into the traps to prevent sewer gas from entering the home.
