Freedom of Information Requests
In the City of Brantford, the Municipal Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act (MFIPPA) enables you to:
- protect your privacy as an individual when you provide personal information to institutions; and
- access records that are available to the public.
Important Note: The City of Brantford does not process FOI requests for records of the institutions listed below. You must contact these institutions directly to request records from them:
Accessing our records
If you would like to access our records please submit a request using the Freedom of Information Access/Correction Form and ensure the $5.00 application fee is paid. Conversely, you can direct FOI questions or inquiries to records@brantford.ca.

In most cases, we issue decision letters 30 days after we receive your payment and application.
Application fee
Make sure to include the $5.00 application fee with your request. You can pay by cash, cheque (made payable to the City of Brantford), VISA, Debit Card, certified cheque or money order. Please do not send cash in the mail. Depending on the nature of the request, photo ID may be required.

Appeal Process
If you are not satisfied with the decision regarding your request, please complete an Appeal Form within 30 days of receiving the decision.

The appeal fee is $25.00, which you must pay to the Information and Privacy Commissioner of Ontario (IPC) if they file the appeal.
Requesting personal information
If you are requesting access to, or would like to correct, your own personal information, please include a photocopied piece of identification (e.g. a driver's licence) that has your signature. This will allow us to verify your identity and ensure that we do not disclose your information to someone other than yourself.
If you are acting as an agent for someone else, please include a signed Consent to Release form [link to form] from that person, which authorizes you to act on their behalf. Please include a photocopy of a piece of their identification that has their signature for verification.
