Work on Brantford Dike to begin October 1, 2018
Starting October 1st, the Grand River Conservation Authority (GRCA) will begin work on the dike and river channel along the Grand River downstream of Veterans Memorial Bridge. The work, expected to be completed in the next 3 months, will be carried out along the base of concrete slabs, which protect the face of the dike.
Staging and construction access for the work will take place off Market Street South through Rivergreen Park. Another part of the work will reduce the height of the sediment bar in the river channel along River Road, from about Gladstone Avenue to Marlene Avenue, by about one metre. This work will restore the storm sewer outlet function for the area and increase river channel capacity for floodwater and ice passage. A section of the floodwall will be temporarily removed to allow trucks and equipment to access the area. River flows at this time of year are low; however, a contingency plan is in place in the event of higher flows. River Road in this area will be affected by temporary lane closures to allow for this work.
Please note that to accommodate this work, Rivergreen Park and the City of Brantford trail will be closed from Earl Haig Park to Strathcona Avenue from October to December.
The public is encouraged to follow posted detours as outlined in the attached map. Click to view the map.
