Water Stagnation During COVID-19
With many buildings either closed or experiencing lower occupancy as a result of COVID-19, many properties have used less water and increased the amount of water stagnation in plumbing systems. It is important for property owners to flush both cold and hot water lines, and drain hot water tanks to remove stagnant water from their building’s plumbing system. Prolonged water stagnation has been associated with water quality issues that may negatively affect human health.
The Canadian Water and Wastewater Association (CWWA) has released a guidance document to assist property owners and managers with rehabilitating plumbing systems before reopening.
Please note that “free chlorine” kits are not suitable to measure chlorine levels in Brantford’s drinking water and commercially available “total chlorine” kits are more appropriate for this purpose. Any inquiries concerning Brantford’s water quality can be directed to 519-759-4150.
