Brantford Transit Scheduling Update

At approximately 12:00 a.m. this morning, a Brantford Transit bus caught fire shortly after regular nightly maintenance service at the City’s Bus Storage Garage on Grand River Ave.

The City is grateful to confirm that no injuries to staff on site at the time of the incident have been reported.

At the time of the fire, 16 of 31 buses in the City’s fleet were parked inside the Bus Storage Garage. While the bus that caught fire is damaged beyond repair, none of the other buses were physically damaged. At this time, City staff continue to work on washing the soot from the exterior and eliminating any smell of smoke from the interior of the buses. Staff are also working with technicians to closely inspect the electrical and other components of the buses to ensure that they are safe for use by the public.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation by Brantford Fire.

Impact on Transit Schedules

It is expected that clean up efforts and inspection will be completed in time to resume regular Sunday service tomorrow Sunday February 9th and regular Monday-Saturday service on Monday February 10th.

At 9:00 p.m. this evening Saturday February 8th, Brantford Transit will operate its regular evening Route #’s 11,12,13,14 and 15. For regular updates, follow Brantford Transit on Twitter @CityBtfdTransit and the City of Brantford @CityofBrantford on Twitter and Facebook.

We apologize for any inconveniences experienced today and thank you for your understanding as we work hard to return to regular scheduled route service delivery.
