The City's fully electric powered Zambonis have arrived at the Wayne Gretzky Sports Centre

BRANTFORD, ON – The City of Brantford is pleased to announce its first fully electric powered Zamboni ice rink resurfacers have arrived at the Wayne Gretzky Sports Centre, located at 254 North Park Street, Brantford. Arena staff will begin using the two new electric Zambonis this week.

“I am proud of City staff for taking the initiative to support ongoing efforts towards a Clean Brantford,” says Brantford Mayor Davis. “This is another example of steps the City is taking towards reducing our carbon footprint and mitigating the negative consequences of climate change.”

The adoption of these electric machines is in line with the City of Brantford’s Corporate Climate Change Action Plan and moves Brantford closer to reaching its goal of net-zero carbon emissions by 2050. The replacement of two propane powered ice rink resurfacers with the electric Zamboni 552 model, will reduce GHG emissions by 27 T of CO₂e/year (270 T of CO₂e/lifetime). It will also improve the indoor air quality for staff and arena patrons by eliminating the propane emissions inside the arena and is expected to reduce operating costs by 85 per cent annually due to reduced fuel and maintenance costs.
