Northwest Industrial Area development and construction to commence
Brantford can expect to see over $30 million of new infrastructure to service the Northwest Industrial Area expansion and residential subdivision underway in March 2021.
While all construction will be undertaken directly by developer contractors, City staff is working closely with the developers to review and approve all construction plans. City staff will also be overseeing the work as it proceeds to ensure that the City standards are met and there are minimal interruptions in services.
Approximately 60 hectares of serviced industrial land will be ready for development once construction is completed. The Hershey Company will utilize 20 hectares of this area.
Recognizing the importance of area stormwater collection, enhancement and discharge, major components of work will include:
- Construction of two Stormwater Management Facilities to provide quality enhancements to rainwater runoff before entering the Grand River
- Enhanced infiltration systems to provide overall water balance for the adjacent natural environmental features
Construction of the final underground connections is expected to be completed later this month with one of the largest storm sewers being assembled onsite measuring 2.1m in diameter.
This work is part of the Telephone City Aggregates Subdivision approved by Brantford City Council in 2014 and amended in 2019, to include both the south of Oak Park Road (Phase 1) and north of Oak Park Road developments. Once completed, the municipal infrastructure installed will include:
- 1 wastewater (sanitary) pumping station
- 4.3 km of road with curb
- 4.5 km of watermains
- 5.7 km of sanitary sewers (including a forcemain)
- 5.7 km of storm sewers
- 9.1 km of sidewalks
