BRANTFORD, ON – The City of Brantford is pleased to announce that the Mayor’s Office has raised $46,692 for the Kids Can Fly from the 14th Annual Mayor’s Gala. Kids Can Fly is a registered charity that supports early learning and parenting.
“Thank you to Mayor Davis and the Mayor’s Gala Organizing Committee, the many sponsors, event contributors and participants for this successful event held in April,” says Jeanne Smitiuch, Canada Director, Dollywood Foundation of Canada. “The additional funds will go towards the Kids Can Fly flagship program, Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library and will send close to 14,000 books to children in Brantford.”
The Imagination Library mails a book a month to children between birth and age 5 to inspire a love of reading, create special bonds with parents and caregivers and prepare children for school.
“As an active and proud grandfather, I know how important the Kids Can Fly organization is to our community,” says Mayor Kevin Davis. “I am so pleased that the gala was able to bring awareness to this important organization and raise funds for the Dolly Parton Imagination Library to promote early literacy in our community.”
Kids Can Fly is the local partner of the Dollywood Foundation of Canada, delivering this community-based program to Brantford and the County of Brant. As the local affiliate for Brantford and Brant, Kids Can Fly is the largest affiliate in Canada, with Calgary, AB and Cole Harbour, NS as the second and third largest. The Brantford and County of Brant affiliate provides books to over 2,900 children monthly. Since the beginning of the local program, over 221,000 books have been mailed to children.
