Important City of Brantford winter response reminders
BRANTFORD, ON – Residents are reminded that feedback regarding snow removal on roads, sidewalks or windrows will not begin to be actioned until 24 hours has passed since the winter event has ended. With precipitation ending early this morning, the 24-hour clock began at 8:00 a.m. this morning. City crews have completed the Red routes and are now working through the Blue and Green routes with anticipation that these will be completed within 24 hours, by 8:00 a.m. tomorrow morning. The City’s windrow contractor has also been dispatched to the homes of residents who are registered for the Windrow Removal Program.
Windrow Removal Program
The City of Brantford offers complimentary snow windrow removal to help seniors 65+ and people with disabilities or medical conditions that are unable to clear the snow left at the end of their driveway after the snow plow has cleared the road.
Residents who take part in this program are reminded that windrow clearing starts after the City has plowed the road. The City’s windrow contractor starts clearing windrows on Red Routes, followed by Blue routes and finishing with Green routes. While all efforts will be made to clear windrows within 24 hours following the plowing of the road, it can sometimes take longer.
How residents can help during a winter weather event
There are many ways you can help to keep travel safe during the winter season:
- Whenever possible, refrain from parking on streets during a winter storm event
- Pile all snow from your driveway and sidewalks on your property (not on the road)
- Clear snow from the sidewalk in front of and beside your property as soon as you can (within 24 hours) after a storm event and apply sand or salt when icy as required
- Keep fire hydrants clear and accessible in case of a fire emergency
- On your garbage day, ensure your garbage and recycling containers do not interfere with snow removal
The City is responsible for clearing over 1,100 km of roads after every significant weather event. We sincerely appreciate the public’s patience and understanding as crews work to get the City moving again as quickly as possible.
