Homeward Bound program offers help to single mothers in Brantford
BRANTFORD, ON – The Brant Skills Centre, in partnership with the City of Brantford and St. Leonard’s Community Services, is proud to update the community about the successes of the Homeward Bound program in the community.
Homeward Bound aims to improve the economic and social outcomes for low-income single mothers. Completed in four phases, the program helps participants with essential skills development and academic upgrading, completion of post-secondary education and internship, and the transition to sustainable employment. Homeward Bound also offers supportive case management that prepares participants for college-level academics and provides social and academic supports throughout the program.
Today, the Brant Skills Centre released the Homeward Bound promotional video that demonstrates how successful the program is. The video focusses on two single mothers who are currently enrolled in the program as they explain how the program has helped them and offer advice to women thinking of applying. Lori Bruner, Executive Director, Brant Skills Centre, also explains the impact the program has on the participants and the process from applying to securing gainful employment. The Homeward Bound promotional video is available at the City of Brantford’s YouTube Channel, www.youtube.com/CityofBrantford.
Homeward Bound participants have acknowledged that they feel connected to others in the program and benefit from the support and encouragement of their peers. Additionally, participants highlighted the impact the program has made for them and their families, and feel an increased connection with their children, have a greater sense of pride working towards their future goals, and benefited from increased stability and greater connection to peers and community supports.
