Free ‘Slow Down’ lawn signs now available for Brantford residents while supplies last

BRANTFORD, ON – The City of Brantford, in partnership with the Neighbourhood Alliance of Brantford (NAB), is pleased to provide free ‘Slow Down’ lawn signs to residents, while supplies last. The signs are intended to enhance roadway safety by reminding motorists to drive slower through residential neighbourhoods.

“It is our hope that these signs help raise awareness, increase safety and decrease the flow and speed of traffic in our neighbourhoods,” says Sylvia Collins, Chair of the Neighbourhood Alliance of Brantford.

Signs are only available to Brantford residents with a limit of one per household, while supplies last. Residents are kindly asked to bring photo identification with them that includes their Brantford address when they pick up their sign. Slow Down signs are not enforceable by Police, however, enforcement of the legal posted speed limit is.

The City is offering several pick up locations, dates and times as indicated below:

12:00 p.m. to 1:30 p.m. at Doug Snooks Eagle Place Community Centre, 333 Erie Avenue
4:30 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. at Branlyn Community Centre, 238 Brantwood Park Road

Wednesday, August 2, 2023

10:30 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. at Major Ballachey Hub, 105 Rawdon Street
4:30 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. at T.B. Costain/SC Johnson Community Centre, 16 Morrell Street

Friday, August 4, 2023

10:00 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. at Bell Homestead National Historic Site, 94 Tutela Heights Road
3:00 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. at Woodman Park Community Centre, 491 Grey Street

The ‘Slow Down” signs can be put up year-round, however, it is suggested that they be posted until November and stored indoors during the winter months to maximize visibility and reduce wear and tear of the sign so that it can be reused.

Residents are asked to place the sign in front of their own household, on personal property only, and set back 1m/3.2 ft from the street line, using only the supplied wire frame. Please do not add reflective tape or illumination to the sign. All signs should be placed at least three metres away from fire hydrants and cannot obstruct any pedestrian, cyclist or driver sight lines.

About the ‘Slow Down Program’

The Slow Down lawn sign program was initiated in 2022 by local Neighbourhood Associations in an effort to address vehicle speed concerns of Brantford residents and help reduce speed through neighbourhoods.

About Neighbourhood Associations

Neighbourhood Associations (NA’s) are volunteer committees that work in cooperation with the City of Brantford to help improve the quality of life in the community. Each NA organizes and promotes recreation and leisure opportunities and local support to area residents. There are currently 24 NA’s in Brantford.
