Fire crews continue battling large fire at 321 Henry Street
BRANTFORD, ON: Brantford Fire crews are still responding to a large industrial fire at 321 Henry Street that began at 8:30 p.m. on October 18th. 3 pumpers and 3 aerials have been deployed and the County of Brant Fire Department are assisting through mutual aid. The immediate priority remains getting the fire under control. Other primary objectives are to continue protecting public safety, and the building. No injuries have been reported to date as a result of this incident.
For their safety, the public is strongly urged to avoid the area and respect all road closure signs and required detours currently in place. The Ministry of the Environment, Conservation and Parks (MECP) attended the site overnight and an air monitoring unit has been assembled and dispatched to the scene. Winds are currently blowing southwest at 9 km/hour and the dark grey plume is low lying. Businesses directly adjacent to the site are closed, though others in the area are open and accessible via detours in place. There are no plans to evacuate at this time.
Those in the area are advised to keep windows and doors shut and HVAC systems off. Those with respiratory issues should avoid the area. The MECP will continue to monitor air quality in residential, commercial and industrial areas around the fire plume area. The Brant County Health Unit has also been engaged and will be working with the MECP to provide any public alerts if necessary.
The City’s Water Operations division reports that water production has been ramped up and is currently meeting the demand to get the fire under control. Wastewater compliance staff are also monitoring fire water run-off in the area very closely.
Crews expect to be on scene for the next 48 hours. Henry St. will remain closed between Middleton and Adams during that time. For ongoing Brantford Transit rerouting information, please visit Brantford.ca/BrantfordTransit.
