FILMING NOTICE - FEBRUARY 23, 2023

Recognizing how welcoming film contributes to short-term economic investment, cultural development, and civic-pride in the the community, the City of Brantford Economic Development, Tourism & Cultural Initiatives Department is pleased to host the cast and crew of Freeborn, a proof-of-concept project. They will be filming scenes at 100 Wellington and exteriors along Wellington and George Streets.

This proof of concept production is set in a near-future dystopia, where advancements in AI, cyborg technology, and human enhancement have reshaped society.

Film crews will arrive in Brantford at 6 am on Friday, February 23. Filming will commence around 7 am and continue until about 8 pm that evening.

Filming will simulate a security service caravan from Wellington at Market to 100 Wellington on George. The production will simulate security vehicles (picture vehicles) and security officers (actors) with prop weapons firing airsoft guns to create the scene. Tattered American flags will be raised at 100 Wellington during the filming.

The production has notified residents and businesses in the area. Residents and businesses displaced can reach out to the contact  identified at the bottom of the circulated notification letter.

In and out access for affected local residents as well as business owners, employees, and customers will be coordinated. Support vehicles will be parked in the lot next to 100 Wellington.

Anticipated Impacts

  • Special Effects and Noise Exemption
    • Simulated security vehicles (picture vehicles) and security officers (actors) with prop weapons firing airsoft guns.
    • No excessive noise is anticipated.
  • Road, Sidewalk, and Intermittent Traffic (ITC) Closures
    • ROAD CLOSURE: George St. (from Nelson to Darling) and Wellington St. (from Market to Charlotte) for a period of 4 hours some time between 6 am and 8 pm, depending on weather.
    • ROAD CLOSURE: George St. (from Nelson to Wellington) between 6 am and 8 pm, including sidewalks.
    • INTERMITTENT TRAFFIC CLOSURE: at the intersection of George St. and Wellington St. with short closures about 5 minutes each.
