February 12 winter event update and response reminders

City of Brantford Winter Control Crew

BRANTFORD, ON – Residents are reminded that feedback related to snow removal on roads, sidewalks, or windrows will only be actioned 24 hours after a winter event has ended. Since precipitation ended early this morning, the 24-hour period began at 7:00 a.m. today.

City crews have completed red routes (primary roads) and are now working through blue routes (secondary roads) and green routes (residential roads), with the expectation that all routes will be cleared by 7:00 a.m. tomorrow. Additionally, the City’s windrow removal contractor has been dispatched to assist residents registered for the Windrow Removal Program.

Windrow Removal Program

The City of Brantford provides complimentary snow windrow removal for eligible seniors (ages 65+) and individuals with disabilities or medical conditions who are unable to clear the snow left at the end of their driveway after plowing.

Participants in this program are reminded that windrow clearing begins only after the City has plowed the roads. Those on green routes (residential roads) will receive service once red routes (primary roads) and blue route (secondary road) locations are completed. While all efforts will be made to clear windrows within 24 hours following the plowing of the road, it can sometimes take longer.

How residents can help during a winter weather event

There are many ways you can help to keep travel safe during the winter season:

  • Whenever possible, refrain from parking on streets during a winter storm event
  • Pile all snow from your driveway and sidewalks on your property (not on the road)
  • Clear snow from the sidewalk in front of and beside your property as soon as you can (within 24 hours) after a storm event and apply sand or salt when icy as required
  • Keep fire hydrants clear and accessible in case of a fire emergency
  • On your garbage day, ensure your garbage and recycling containers do not interfere with snow removal

The City is responsible for clearing over 1,400 km of roads after every significant weather event. We sincerely appreciate the public’s patience and understanding as crews work to get the City moving again as quickly as possible.
