Downtown Revitalization Office opens to support Community collaboration

Downtown office

BRANTFORD, ON – The Downtown Revitalization project is a significant undertaking by the City of Brantford to transform how Downtown Brantford looks, feels, and functions while also preserving its cultural heritage. The project is required because the underground infrastructure, including the sanitary, sewer, and watermains, are reaching the end of their life and need to be replaced. The new underground infrastructure will also allow for increased capacity and future development in the downtown. Above ground, enhancements in streetscaping will foster a more appealing, and secure environment for everyone, while also enhancing transportation options throughout the downtown area.

Consistent with our shared vision to develop a vibrant and thriving downtown core, Mayor Kevin Davis was joined by Councillor Mandy Samwell, City staff and members of the Downtown Brantford Business Improvement Area (DBBIA) Chair, Barbara Sutherland and Executive Director Annette Wawzonek, to officially open a dedicated Downtown Revitalization Office in Brantford City Hall. Repurposed from existing space in City Hall and designed as a central resource hub, the office will be staffed to address questions and concerns from local businesses and residents regarding the ongoing downtown revitalization project.

Located in Heritage Hall (main lobby) at Brantford City Hall (58 Dalhousie Street), beginning May 13th, members of the public can make appointments with City staff to receive information about the downtown project and get their questions answered or drop in to explore conceptual renderings.

To make an appointment to meet with City staff, email cobdowntown@brantford.ca or call 519-759-4150.

QUOTES

"As the economic, cultural, and entertainment heart of our city, Brantford’s downtown is poised for a remarkable and very exciting transformation, both above and below ground. This revitalization project will breathe new life into our historic downtown streets while addressing the critical need to replace aging infrastructure. Though construction may bring some disruption, the short-term inconvenience promises significant long-term benefits for our city, and this dedicated office will make getting important information easier for businesses and residents throughout the duration of the project.”
- City of Brantford Mayor Kevin Davis

“I’m very proud to be a Downtown Revitalization Champion and champion this transformative project. Offering comprehensive support and guidance to businesses and community members invested in this initiative is a vital component of its success. I think working together can make good things happen, especially in improving our downtown and I am committed to working closely with all involved to make our shared dream of a thriving downtown a reality.”
- Ward 5 Councillor Mandy Samwell

"The Downtown Revitalization Office will serve as a one-stop shop for information related to the downtown project where City staff dedicated to this project look forward to an ongoing open dialogue with businesses and community members. We are committed to providing timely assistance, and addressing inquiries to ensure transparency and inclusivity throughout every phase of this important project." - Gagan Batra, Manager of Business Support and Sustainability.
