Construction of Southwest Community Park

Rendering of the future Southwest Community Park

BRANTFORD, ON – The City of Brantford is excited to announce the upcoming construction of the Southwest Community Park, a major new addition to West Brantford’s recreational amenities. Located at the corner of Shellard Lane and Strickland Avenue, adjacent to the GEDSB/City of Brantford joint-build school, library, and community centre, work began the week of September 19, 2024. Initial construction will focus on infrastructure to support the joint-build project and park development.

The second phase of the park’s construction, scheduled to start in 2025, will introduce a wide range of amenities, including a large playground, splash pad, cricket pitch, artificial turf soccer field, shade structures, and a paved and refrigerated multi-use court for year-round use—accommodating both summer sports and winter skating. The full project is expected to be completed by Summer 2026.

Traffic Impacts

Traffic in the immediate area will largely remain unaffected during construction. However, intermittent service connections may result in minor disruptions. Updates on any temporary road closures or service interruptions will be communicated in advance. Residents may notice an increase in truck traffic during certain phases of construction.
