City wins “Buildings Engineering GOLD AWARD” for 324 Grand River Ave Environmental Services Building
BRANTFORD, ON – The City is excited to announce that we have been awarded the 2019 Consulting Engineers of Ontario Award of Merit – GOLD in the Buildings Engineering category in recognition of innovation and efficiencies achieved at the new 324 Grand River Ave Environmental Services Administration Building.
Awarded May 30th at a ceremony held in Kitchener for the Consulting Engineers of Ontario and shared by the City and Project Consultant – JL Richards and Associates, the award recognizes selected projects for technical excellence and innovation as well as the level of project complexity and contribution to economic, social and/or environmental quality of life in the Grand River area.
Impressively delivered on time and under budget, the $11.9M City project was singled out for this award primarily because of the innovative approach to the building’s efficiency, enabling a better process to manage costs and opportunities for energy efficiency and long-term operational savings.
“I’m really proud of this accomplishment and the exceptionally dedicated Project Team who made it a reality”, said Beth Goodger, the City’s General Manager of Public Works. “Delivering a project of this scope and scale under budget and ahead of schedule is testament to how committed the team was and indicative of how the new City Hall project will be managed. Several of the efficiency optimizing design features at this facility will also be implemented at the new City Hall.”
The Environmental Services facility is a two-story, 32,000 ft2 building split into three major components: a multipurpose administrative building; a one-story warehouse space; and a drive-through vehicle maintenance and storage garage with seven vehicle bays, including a designated wash bay.
Key building features include a reception area, offices, multipurpose administrative work spaces, customized departmental training rooms, boardrooms, a lunch room, locker rooms for outdoor-working staff, change rooms, mechanical and electrical service spaces, laboratory, enclave rooms, wellness rooms for staff, and open concept ceiling space and transom windows that reduce the need for artificial lighting with the added bonus of creating a natural mood lifting environment.
While many people across the organization contributed to this success, the City would like to especially acknowledge the outstanding efforts of the key Project Team members including:
- Caroline Jager – Project Manager, Staff Project Lead
- Lise Sordo – Project Manager
- Selvi Kongara – Director, Environmental Services
- Blair Kingsbury – Manager, Water Operations
- Alicia Korslick – Coordinator of Support Services
To facilitate efficient workflow, the new Environmental Services building is located at 324 Grand River Ave, on the same site as the City’s existing Water Treatment Plant.
