City waives late payment and transit fees as part of Covid-19 pandemic response

Brantford City Hall

BRANTFORD, ON: At its meeting held Tuesday March 24, 2020 Brantford City Council approved measures to assist property owners and water/wastewater customers who may be experiencing financial difficulties due to disruptions caused by the Covid-19 pandemic. Specific measures include:

  • Late payment fees will be not be added on April 1st or May 1st to accounts with unpaid property taxes from the February 28th due date and the upcoming April 29th due date
  • Post-dated cheques on file for property taxes will still be deposited unless the property owner contacts the Property Tax Office to request the cheques be held for future deposit or returned
  • 12-month Pre-authorized Payment Plans (PAP) and Due Date Payment Plans will proceed as scheduled but property owners can contact the Property Tax Office to suspend the plan for their accounts until further notice without penalty. Property owners on the 12-month PAP plan must notify the Property Tax Office by Thursday, March 26th if they wish to suspend their April 1st, 2020 withdrawal
  • Late payment charges will not be charged on water/wastewater utility accounts in arrears for 120 days
  • The $40 Non-sufficient funds (NSF) fee for returned cheques will not be charged for 120 days
  • The Property Tax Office can be contacted by phone at 519-759-4150 or by email at tax.info@brantford.ca. Water account holders can contact Customer Service Utilities at 519-756-1360 or customerservices@brantford.ca.

Brantford Transit

In order to further adhere to social distancing guidelines and to reduce the risk to transit operators, beginning today March 25, 2020, Brantford Transit (BT) has implemented a rear door access only policy on all BT buses until April 13, 2020. During this period, riders will not be expected to pay fares, however, transit operators will be enforcing a maximum of 15 passengers per bus and only allow people with accessible needs to continue to board from the front door. We continue to encourage riders during this time to only use transit as necessary and to practice social distancing when on board. This process will remain in effect until further notice.

Additional Preventative Measures

Effective immediately, no new or removal of services, including water, storm, and sanitary installations will be allowed within the road allowance as this activity increases the risk for disruption of essential services to existing residents and businesses. Only emergency and special circumstances will be allowed on a case by case basis. This process will remain in effect until further notice.

 Dogford Park Dog Park

The City is taking enhanced health and safety measures to assist in reducing the risk of Covid-19 community spread. Effective immediately, Dogford Park Dog Park located at 189 Gilkison Street will be temporarily closed to the public.
