City’s Economic Development Department and Tourism Centre “Open for Business”
Brantford, ON – The City is pleased to announce a number of exciting changes to our Economic Development and Tourism department that will further enhance and elevate the profile of these important City functions.
Effective January 2, 2020, Director of Economic Development and Tourism, Kevin Finney will report directly to the Chief Administrative Officer (CAO) Brian Hutchings where Economic Development and Tourism staff will have the opportunity to work even more closely with both the CAO and Mayor’s offices to further raise the City’s profile in these lucrative arenas.
Paul Moore, General Manager of Community Development will continue to lead the Commission, made up of Planning, Building, and By-law Enforcement staff, with a greater focus on completing and implementing the City’s Official Plan as well as servicing the boundary expansion lands.
Last month, Sara Munroe began her tenure as the City’s new Manager of Tourism, Culture and Sport, overseeing all services of Tourism Brantford including industry development, marketing and visitor services. Sara is also responsible for facilitating partnership programs with The County of Brant, Six Nations of the Grand River and regional tourism organizations.
“We have already seen tremendous growth in several markets this year such as merchandise, increased visitors and multiple film productions ”, said CAO Brian Hutchings. “I’m very confident that the changes we’re making now will further build on those successes and put us at an even more competitive advantage as a destination of choice to new businesses and visitors”, he added.
QUICK FACTS
- The Visitor and Tourism Centre located at 399 Wayne Gretzky Parkway will soon be upgraded to modernize the information kiosks surrounding the reception area
- 2020 will see the launch of a redeveloped Discover Brantford tourism website, modeled after the award-winning City of Brantford, Advantage Brantford and Wayne Gretzky Sports Centre websites
- Tourism and Economic and Development themed videos will be unveiled in early 2020 that highlight the advantages of investing in Brantford as well as sport, corporate and group, arts and culture, leisure, and travel media experiential opportunities throughout the city
- In 2018, 15 new industrial firms were welcomed to the city, occupying 358,396 square feet of new or existing space
- The City is currently on track to surpass last year’s construction activity with an impressive $173.8 million issued in building permits in the first 10 months of 2019
