City releases 2022 Seniors Toolkit on World Elder Abuse Awareness Day

BRANTFORD, ON – The City of Brantford and Brant Elder Abuse Awareness Committee are pleased to announce the release of the Seniors Toolkit, a practical handbook for older adults that provides information about various agencies and service providers. The toolkit will be available on June 15th, 2022, in support of World Elder Abuse Awareness Day (WEAAD), to raise awareness of elder abuse in our communities.

“We are pleased to offer the 2022 Seniors Toolkit to the community and raise awareness of elder abuse,” says Councillor Carpenter, Chair of the Brant Elder Abuse Awareness Committee. “It is important to bring attention to this issue, and we’re proud to add our voices to the World Elder Abuse Awareness Day campaign. Elder Abuse is preventable if we work together to make social change to address ageism and elder abuse.”

Printed copies of the 2022 Seniors Toolkit are available at the Customer Service counter at Brantford City Hall, 58 Dalhousie St, or a digital version is available online at Brantford.ca/HealthyLiving.

The City of Brantford will also be launching Stronger Together: Elder Abuse Awareness and Prevention Project on June 15th. This initiative will further support the implementation of recommendations identified in Right Now: Brantford's Community Strategy to Prevent and Address Elder Abuse. The project will support the development of educational workshops and campaigns to increase awareness of community supports and resources with support from the Brant Elder Abuse Awareness Committee.

The Brant Elder Abuse Awareness Committee is comprised of local agencies and volunteers in the City of Brantford and the County of Brant. The committee facilitates educational workshops to increase awareness on elder abuse and provide residents and local organizations with tools and resources to support older adults in the community.

Prioritizing seniors' health and wellness and reducing social isolation is a key component of the City's Healthy Aging Plan and Right Now: A Community Strategy to Prevents and Address Elder Abuse. Initiatives like these help optimize opportunities for health, participation and overall well-being.
