City rallies behind local businesses and workers with ‘Buy Canadian, Shop Local’ campaign

BRANTFORD, ON: In response to the newly imposed U.S. tariffs on Canadian goods, expected to be announced later today, the City is proud to launch a new "Buy Canadian, Shop Local" campaign to encourage residents and businesses to support local products and services.
The campaign follows proactive measures recently approved by the City’s Trade and Procurement Working Group to implement a range of strategies to protect the Brantford economy, including Buy Canadian policies, support for local businesses, and regional collaboration on trade response efforts.
Mayor Kevin Davis expressed the importance of community action saying, “Recognizing tariffs imposed by the U.S. pose a significant challenge to our local businesses, manufacturers, and workers, it is more important than ever to strengthen our local economy and be resilient in the face of uncertainty. By choosing to buy Canadian and shopping locally, we can lessen the impacts of these tariffs and show our strong and continued support for our community.”
The City is implementing a series of initiatives to ensure local businesses receive the support they need. As part of this effort, the City is reviewing its procurement policy to prioritize Canadian suppliers where feasible. To further assist businesses in navigating the evolving trade landscape, the City is providing and consistently updating valuable resources that businesses can access. Residents are encouraged to participate by making intentional choices to buy local and support Canadian-made products. Businesses can access additional information and resources through the City’s dedicated U.S. Tariff Resources Webpage at advantagebrantford.ca/USTrade.
The City also recognizes that Canadian subsidiaries of international companies play an important role in supporting jobs and economic growth in Brantford. This campaign is about reinforcing our collective support for all businesses and encourages residents to make choices that strengthen our local economy.
