City of Brantford to celebrate Earth Hour on March 23
BRANTFORD, ON – Brantford City Council has proclaimed Saturday, March 23, 2024, from 8:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. as Earth Hour to raise awareness that climate change is the biggest environmental threat to our planet, and to encourage residents to take action. This initiative, led by the World Wildlife Fund, is observed by over 1.3 billion people worldwide who stand in solidarity for environmental conservation by turning off non-essential lights for one hour.
City participation in Earth Hour
In support of this important initiative, the City of Brantford will turn off all non-essential lighting at City facilities during Earth Hour on March 23, 2024. Essential lighting affecting public safety and security such as streetlights, traffic lights, park pathway, and parking lot lighting at City facilities will remain operational.
Get involved!
We encourage all residents and businesses to unite with the rest of the world to show support for climate action and spend 60 minutes doing something positive for our planet. Some fun activities to do during Earth Hour include:
- Playing a board game by candlelight
- Cooking dinner with sustainable ingredients
- Taking a nighttime walk
- Going stargazing
If you use candles, please keep in mind these important tips:
- Use sturdy candleholders. Candles with glass shades or chimneys are best.
- Keep candles safely away from anything that can burn.
- Keep candles and matches away from children.
- Never leave a lit candle unattended.
- Blow out or extinguish the candle if you leave the room.
Earth Hour believes that each and every one of us has the power to make a positive impact on our planet, but it’s up to us as individuals to decide how we do so. Let’s all celebrate the Biggest Hour for the Earth on Saturday, March 23!
