City of Brantford’s Harmony Square offers a variety of free programs this summer

BRANTFORD, ON – City of Brantford’s Harmony Square at 89 Dalhousie Street is home to a wide variety of free summer programming throughout July and August 2024. Families can enjoy movies and live music, character meet-and-greets, chess, fitness programming including yoga, roller skating, cooling off in the splash pad and more! All programs and activities are free, with the exception of roller skate rentals. All activities are weather permitting.

“Our amazing events team has put together an incredible line-up of free programs and activities for residents to enjoy all summer long in Harmony Square,” says Jennifer Middleton, Special Events Supervisor for the City of Brantford. “We invite you to make a plan to experience the delicious downtown Brantford dining options and take in the free quality programs and activities in Harmony Square all summer long.”

Movies in the Square offers an exciting line-up of outdoor movies sponsored by local businesses, every Thursday at dusk, from July 11 to August 29, 2024. Attendees are encouraged to arrive early to enjoy pre-show activities. Popcorn, sweet treats and non-alcoholic beverages will be available for purchase. Movie goers who ride their bike to the Movies in the Square event will receive one free bag of popcorn.

Music in the Square will have you up and dancing with live musical performances from local talent. TD Bank Group presents music Friday evenings from 7 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. from July 12 to August 30, 2024, and an additional Sunday afternoon performance from 3 p.m. to 4 p.m. on July 7, and Aug 25, 2024.

Roller Skate in the Square on Mondays and Wednesdays with a live D.J. spinning energetic tunes from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. sponsored by the Downtown Brantford BIA. Onsite registration is required. Roller skate rentals are available for $10 per pair.

Fitness in the Square returns from July 8 to August 26, 2024 with drop-in classes including; High Intensity Interval Training (HIIT) on Mondays from 7:15 a.m. to 8 a.m., Yoga on Tuesdays from 6 p.m. to 6:45 p.m., BodyFit on Wednesdays from 7:15 a.m. to 8 a.m., and CardioFit on Fridays from 7:15 a.m. to 8 a.m. in partnership with Laurier Brantford YMCA. Yoga in the Square with Kathy Brown Yoga will also be offered on Thursdays from 7:30 a.m. to 8:15 a.m. from July 11 to August 29, 2024.

Character Meet and Greets sponsored by GrandBridge Energy, include visits with Spider Hero, Desert Princess, Sleeping Princess and more. A different character will be bringing magic to the square every Tuesday in July and August from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. Kids can get their creative juices flowing by colouring a page of the character, then take a photo with them and have their work of art autographed.

Chess in the Square returns on Tuesday and Thursday afternoons from 12 p.m. to 2 p.m. from July 9 to August 29, 2024 with the Brantford Chess Club. Additional Chess Tournaments will be held July 21 and August 18 from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.

Playdate in the Square with the Brantford Public Library will have children blowing bubbles, playing giant games and much more every Wednesday from 1 p.m. to 2 p.m. from July 10 to August 28, 2024.

Fun in the Sun with Family Gathering will offer family-fun with crafts, science experiments, painting, Indigenous cultural education and more, with Urban EarlyON. This program takes place on Mondays from 1:30 p.m. to 3 p.m. July 15 to August 26, 2024.

Families can also enjoy cooling off in the splash pad that is now open daily from 10 a.m. to 8:30 p.m. View open and close status online at Brantford.ca/SplashPads.
