City of Brantford reports record breaking construction month in September
BRANTFORD, ON – Today, the City released its September 2019 Report on Construction Activity demonstrating a construction value of $35.969 million for issued permits. The construction value in September is higher than the previous four years, and surpasses the past five-year average for the month of September, while setting the record for the highest construction value tracked since 1986 for the month of September.
The largest increase occurred in the Multiple Residential (New) Sector of construction with one building permit issued to Angil Development Group Inc. for the construction of a new 140-unit residential apartment structure with ground floor commercial units, located at 1 Wellington Street. The Multiple Residential (New) Sector had a total construction value of $30 million, which is well above the September 2018 construction value of $9.854 million for five building permits.
Increases also occurred in the Single Detached Dwellings (New) Sector of construction. A total of six building permits were issued in this Sector, with a construction value of $1.410 million, which is an increase over one building permit and a total construction value of $0.180 million in September 2018.
Other noteworthy building permits issued in September 2019 include a permit to construct a 5,000 square foot addition to Princess Auto, located at 221 Henry Street with a construction value of $0.750 million, and a permit issued to complete refrigeration upgrades to Lion Park Arena, located at 12 Edge Street at a construction value of $0.6 million.
A total of 945 building permits have been issued to date this year, with a total construction value of $168.836 million, which is well above last year’s to date total of $113.947 million.
