City of Brantford participating in 2021 Virtual AMO Conference

AMO conference 2021

BRANTFORD, ON – Brantford Mayor Kevin Davis will join 1,400 participants in the Association of Municipalities of Ontario's 2021 AMO Conference from August 16 to 18, 2021. For the second time in the organization’s 120-year history, the entire conference program will be offered online.

Building on the success of the 2020 Conference – the largest gathering of municipal government leaders since the COVID-19 pandemic began – this year’s event will be Ontario’s top educational forum for municipal governments, featuring more than 40 speakers, sessions and workshops, reflecting the broad scope of municipal responsibilities.

For more than a century, Ontario’s largest municipal conference has brought together municipal, provincial and federal officials to work collectively to overcome municipal challenges and plan for the future.

Ontario’s Premier, Minister of Municipal Affairs, and the three party leaders are featured speakers and several additional provincial ministers will participate in the conference.

The City of Brantford Delegation to this year’s conference includes Mayor Kevin Davis, Councillor Cheryl Antoski, Councillor Greg Martin, Councillor John Utley, CAO Brian Hutchings, Public Works General Manager Inderjit Hans, and Chief of Staff, Sasha Hill.

The Delegation will attend sessions and meet with various Ministers and provincial staff including the Honourable Minister of Health, Christine Elliott, Deputy Minister of Indigenous Affairs, Shawn Batise, Minister of Environment, Conservation and Parks Parliamentary Assistant

Andrea Khanjin, and Minister of Natural Resources Parliamentary Assistant Mike Harris.

Sessions and speakers will cover a wide range of topics, including COVID-19, its impact on municipal service delivery and charting our economic recovery; climate change; women in leadership; broadband connectivity in Ontario; transforming long-term care; community paramedicine; diversity, bias, inclusivity and mental health; municipal insurance costs; property assessment in a post-pandemic world; changes to Conservation Authorities, and more.

The annual conference is a chance for municipal officials to discuss and move forward on shared challenges, to learn, and to create new opportunities that can benefit their communities. In addition to the conference program, municipal staff and officials will take part in municipal delegation meetings with provincial and federal ministries.

Conference news releases, fact sheets and presentations from a number of key speakers will be posted on AMO’s website throughout the duration of the conference at www.amo.on.ca.

AMO is a non-profit organization representing almost all of Ontario’s 444 municipal governments. AMO supports strong and effective municipal government in Ontario and promotes the value of municipal government as a vital and essential component of Ontario and Canada’s political system.
