City of Brantford delegation to participate in 2023 AMO Conference in London

BRANTFORD, ON – More than 2,000 participants from hundreds of municipalities and organizations from across Ontario will participate in the Association of Municipalities of Ontario's 2023 AMO Conference at RBC Place London and the DoubleTree by Hilton in London, Ontario August 20 to 23, 2023.

The 2023 Conference will bring municipal leaders together with the Ontario government following a year of important legislative changes, many intended to tackle the province’s housing crisis. Housing continues to be a top priority for all municipal governments. This year’s event features more than 60 speakers, sessions and workshops, reflecting the broad scope of municipal responsibilities. 

Keynote presenters include Ontario Premier Doug Ford and his Government’s ministers, Marit Stiles, Leader of the Ontario NDP and Official Opposition, John Fraser, Interim Leader of the Ontario Liberal Party, Mike Schreiner, Leader of the Green Party of Ontario, and Colin Best, AMO President. 

The City of Brantford Delegation to this year’s conference includes Mayor Kevin Davis, Brantford City Councillor Rose Sicoli, CAO Brian Hutchings, and Manager of Government Relations & Corporate Initiatives, Sasha Hill Smith. The Delegation will attend sessions and meet with various Ministers and provincial staff to advocate for key City priorities including a proposal to the Ministry of Transportation (MTO) for a GO Rail Station stop in Brantford.

Identified as an urban growth centre, Brantford’s population is projected to grow nearly 60% by 2051 with an expected workforce of 80,000 people. With the exponential growth that Brantford has undergone and continues to experience, it is very clear that a new transit solution for Brantford and surrounding municipalities is required to facilitate a more efficient connection between Brantford and the Aldershot GO Station. The Brantford Delegation will present a convincing case for #GOBrantford, detailing that Brantford’s uniquely situated central location can provide connection for adjacent and surrounding communities including the County of Brant and Six Nations of the Grand River, making us well positioned to service surrounding communities with proximity to 1.092 million workers within 50 km (30 mi) and 6.054 million workers within 125 km.

The Brantford Delegation will also take part in meetings as part the Ontario Big City Mayors (OBCM) and Mayors and Regional Charis of Ontario (MARCO) groups, and will meet to delegate on behalf of Brantford with representatives of the Ministry of Energy, the Solicitor General, and the Ministry of Tourism, Culture and Sport.
