City of Brantford announces Healthy Kids Action Plan 2024-2028

BRANTFORD, ON – The City of Brantford has launched the Healthy Kids Action Plan 2024-2028, bringing together community partners from business, sport, culture and recreation to respond to emerging needs of children in Brantford.

Healthy Kids Bright Futures focuses on providing engaging activities and educational opportunities to enhance children’s positive development and prepare them for school. According to the Early Development Instrument (EDI), children in Brantford score lower than the provincial average in childhood development measurements of physical health and well-being, social competency, emotional maturity, language and cognitive development, and communication skills and general knowledge. With a coordinated community effort, a robust awareness campaign and Healthy Kids’ broad network of partners, children and families will be provided the knowledge and tools to meet age-appropriate skills and behaviour expectations.

The City of Brantford is increasingly diverse and has committed to an Inclusive Community Plan that has three guiding principles: Learn from Each Other, Stand Up for Each Other, and Celebrate Each Other. The Healthy Kids All Kids initiative will support a welcoming environment for all children to participate in local activities. It will provide training and tools to local sport, art, culture and recreation organizations to support them in welcoming and including all children, contributing to an inclusive community.
