City of Brantford and Brantford Youth Council to host activities for Youth Week

BRANTFORD, ON – The City of Brantford, in partnership with the Brantford Youth Council (BYC), is hosting a series of events and activities for youth in celebration of National Youth Week from May 1 to 7, 2025. National Youth Week provides an opportunity to involve local youth in areas of civic engagement and recreation through events and activities developed by the City in collaboration with BYC.

To commemorate Youth Week 2025, residents of all ages are invited to attend a flag raising ceremony in Harmony Square, 89 Dalhousie St, on Thursday, May 1, 2025, at 4 p.m. with remarks from members of the Brantford Youth Council and City representatives.

Youth Week Events and Activities

  • Drop-in Volleyball at Woodman Community Centre (491 Grey Street) on Thursday, May 1 from 7:30 p.m. to 9 p.m. Ages 11 to 17.
  • BYOBoard Games Youth Social at Steve’s Tea Company (505 Park Road North) on Friday, May 2 from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Ages 13-18. Registration encouraged at Brantford.ca/YouthWeek.
  • Youth After Dark at Woodman Community Centre (491 Grey Street) on Friday, Mary 2 from 3 p.m. to 11 p.m. Ages 11 to 17.
  • Youth Cooking Classes at Woodman Community Centre (491 Grey Street) on Saturday, May 3 from 10 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. and 12:30 p.m. to 2 p.m. Ages 11 to 17. Registration required at Brantford.ca/YouthWeek.
  • Open Gym at Woodman Community Centre (491 Grey Street) on Saturday, May 3 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
  • Brantford Youth Week Scavenger Hunt is happening April 22 until May 4. Youth can visit a list of historic, artistic and niche Brantford locations, snap a photograph and upload them to letstalkbrantford.ca/youthweek for the chance to win prizes with a grand total prize of $165 worth of gift cards to local youth friendly businesses.
  • Youth “Little Free Library” Launch at Rotary Centennial Waterworks Park (400 Grand River Avenue) on Sunday, May 4 from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. Event will include an Open Mic and litter pickup. All ages.
  • Drop-in Basketball at Woodman Community Centre (491 Grey Street) on Monday, May 5 from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. Ages 11 to 17.
  • Youth Chess Tournament at Woodman Community Centre (491 Grey Street) on Tuesday, May 6 from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Ages 11 to 17. Registration required at Brantford.ca/YouthWeek.
  • Open Gym at Woodman Community Centre (491 Grey Street) on Wednesday, May 7 from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m. Ages 11 to 17.

Woodman Community Centre (491 Grey Street) will additionally be offering their regularly scheduled youth drop-in programs free of charge throughout the week:

  • May 1: Open Gym 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. | W Lounge 3 p.m. to 9 p.m.
  • May 5: Open Gym 3 p.m. to 6 p.m. | Games Night 7:30 p.m. to 9 p.m. | W Lounge 3 p.m. to 9 p.m.
  • May 6: Open Gym 7:30 p.m. to 9 p.m. | Pickleball 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. | W Lounge 3 p.m. to 9 p.m.
  • May 7: Basketball 6 p.m. to 9 p.m.

Youth Week 2025 will wrap up with the third annual Brantford Youth Excellence Awards on Wednesday, May 7. This event will honour graduates from the City of Brantford’s Youth Leadership Development Program, along with local youth who have been nominated by local organizations for their accomplishments in the categories of Well-Being and Growth, Diversity and Inclusion, Community, and Leadership and Impact.  

Brantford Youth Week is a project that amplifies the goals of the City’s Empowering Youth Strategy, which represents the City’s ongoing commitment to prioritizing youth wellness through programs, services and community-based initiatives.
