City of Brantford and Brantford Native Housing to conduct 2020 Point-in-Time Homelessness Count
Brantford, ON – The City of Brantford, in partnership with Brantford Native Housing will be conducting the Brantford-Brant Point-in-Time (PiT) Count on Thursday, March 26, 2020. This will be the City’s third time conducting the PiT Count, which is part of a Canada-wide effort to enumerate and survey individuals in sheltered and unsheltered locations to determine how many people are experiencing homelessness on any given night.
Brantford Native Housing is seeking up to 100 volunteers to help survey individuals experiencing homelessness. The information gathered from these surveys will support governments, service providers, community groups and funders with the information needed to plan appropriate programs to address and measure our progress in ending homelessness.
A Community Gathering event will be hosted by Brantford Native Housing on Thursday, March 26, 2020 from 5:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. at the Brantford & District Civic Centre Auditorium, located at 79 Market St S. This free community event will include free food and entertainment as well as activities, haircuts, community resources and service referrals.
“We look forward to hosting the Community Gathering for individuals experiencing homelessness,” says Paula Whitlow, Community Capacity & Coordinated Access Development Liaison Officer, Brantford Native Housing. “Offering the opportunity to access community resources and engage in conversation will allow us to better understand their needs.”
Results from the PiT Count will be made public. The Brantford-Brant PiT Count is funded by Reaching Home: Canada’s Homelessness Strategy to prevent and reduce homelessness and will build on data from previous years to better understand homelessness in our community.
