City finishes 2019 with nearly $200 million in construction activity
BRANTFORD, ON – Today, the City released its December 2019 Report on Construction Activity demonstrating a construction value of $8.782 million for 54 issued permits. The construction value in December surpasses the value attained for the month of December in 2019 and brings the City’s 2019 total construction value to $199.273 million, which is well above last year’s total of $174.009 million and sets the record for the City’s third highest year-end construction value to date.
The largest increase for the month of December occurred in the Single Detached Dwellings (New) Sector of construction. A total of twenty-three building permits were issued for new single detached dwellings, with a total construction value of $6.814 million, compared to four building permits with a total construction value of $1.313 million in December 2018.
Increases also occurred in the Residential (Accessory, Alterations, Additions) Sector of construction. A total of nineteen building permits were issued in this Sector, with a construction value of $0.616 million, which is an increase over twenty-six building permits and a total construction value of $0.244 million in December 2018.
Other noteworthy permits issued in December include a building permit to complete alterations to an industrial mall at 349 Henry Street, which had a construction value of $0.355 million, and a permit issued to complete alterations to a warehouse at 170 Savannah Oaks, which had a construction value of $0.277 million.
A total of 1,137 building permits were issued in 2019, which is an increase from the 1,052 permits issued in 2018.
