City breaks ground on Brantford Police Service Redevelopment Project

BPS Ground Breaking

BRANTFORD, ON – In a shared commitment to safeguarding the safety and security of the community, Mayor Kevin Davis was joined by MP Larry Brock and Milan Novakovic on behalf of MPP Will Bouma, as well as Chair of the Brantford Police Service Board, Councillor Greg Martin, Vice Chair of the Brantford Police Service Board Mandy Samwell, Interim Police Chief Jason Saunders and City of Brantford staff, to break ground on the Brantford Police Service Redevelopment Project. In partnership with Melloul Blamey Construction, today's event marks a significant step forward toward ensuring the Brantford Police Service is better equipped to respond to the law enforcement needs of our rapidly growing community.

The redeveloped Brantford Police Service station will not only accommodate the growth of the Brantford Police Service, but will also be the City of Brantford’s first municipal carbon zero build.

With a targeted completion timeline of 30 months, and in alignment with the City’s declaration of a Climate Emergency in 2019, the construction will adhere to a net-zero carbon building design. The proposed features of the three-storey redevelopment include triple-paned windows, a highly-efficient HVAC system to reduce energy consumption, ultralow-flow plumbing fixtures to minimize water usage, LED lighting with photocells for adaptive lighting control, and the installation of solar panels on the roof.

Spanning 127,217 square feet, the redevelopment is designed to accommodate the evolving needs of the Branford Police Service and the community for the next 25 to 30 years.
