City asks public to build their own City budget to inform 2021 budget process
BRANTFORD, ON: The City of Brantford understands that municipal budget decisions have a profound impact on the daily lives of our residents. From garbage collection, to public transit, to the safety of our neighbourhoods, City budgets sit at the heart of a community’s development and all of our residents’ quality of life.
The City of Brantford considers resident engagement, accountability, fiscal prudence, and transparency as fundamental components of our budget development process. Meaningful and effective public engagement improves the quality of decisions made, facilitates citizen understanding of issues and government processes, fosters respect for the views of others, and increases support, understanding and ownership of decisions made.
As the City considers its 2021 budget, we want to hear from Brantford residents about what they think the City's 2021 budget priorities should be and what programs and services are most important to them. To help inform the City’s 2021 operating budget, we are excited to offer a series of new input opportunities for residents to have their say about the City budget at LetsTalkBrantford.ca.
What does YOUR City budget look like?
The City would like to hear from residents about how they would balance the City budget using a Budget Allocator tool available on the City’s new LetsTalkBrantford.ca engagement platform. The tool allows users to increase or decrease funding for different City service areas based on what residents think the City’s priorities should be.
While completing the budget simulation, residents are asked think about questions such as: Why is this program or service important? Do I want to change the level of service that is provided now? Will the community benefit from this increase or decrease?
To access the City of Brantford budget simulation, residents can go to LetsTalkBrantford.ca or simply type bit.ly/BalancetheBudget into their browser.
