City announces development of a new dog park at 282 Stanley Street

BRANTFORD, ON: On October 31, 2022 the City of Brantford confirmed that the sale of a portion of the former Arrowdale Municipal Golf Course at 282 Stanley Street in Brantford was final. 32 Acres of the 49 acres were sold to Elite M.D. Arrowdale Holdings Inc. for a total purchase price of $14,000,000. Proceeds of the sale have been allocated to affordable housing within the City of Brantford and tax revenues generated from the redevelopment of the Arrowdale property will be transferred annually into a reserve fund dedicated to affordable housing initiatives to help support our community’s most vulnerable residents.

Arrowdale Community Park

In 2019 City Council also directed that 17 acres of the lands be retained for a community park that will be accessible to the public year-round. As a community park, this unique recreational space will be the largest park to be built in Brantford in 100 years, and given its scope and scale, will service both the immediate neighbourhood as well as the broader community. To view both winter and summer park design concepts, please visit brantford.ca/ReimaginingArrowdale. Areas of study will remain fenced. Following completion of Archaeological Studies the community park layout will be reimagined and full construction will be planned.

Dog Park portion of the Community Park

Today, the City is pleased to announce that the first phase of construction on the dog park, that was part of the Community Park design, will begin on Monday December 12, 2022 on the southerly side of the property along Elgin Street. This area has been cleared during recent Archaeological Investigations and we are excited to offer this new park amenity. The City will issue another communication once the park is open and available for use.

Tobogganing

In addition to construction of the dog park, the City is delighted to announce that a temporary parking lot is also being constructed to accommodate user parking for those that intend to use the park for tobogganing this winter. This is in line with Council direction to include the allowance of tobogganing within the new Community Park. Once the temporary parking lot is completed, the City will issue a further notice to inform residents that the park may be used for tobogganing. As always, residents choosing to toboggan are required to comply with all posted rules and regulations. Parents/Guardians are responsible for their children’s safety and to determine if the conditions are safe for tobogganing. The City asks that all users act in an orderly, safe, and considerate manner to ensure that all residents can safely enjoy this winter tradition.
