City announces beginning of gradual approach to reopening

Brantford, ON: Consistent with the Ontario government’s responsible and measured approach to reopening, The City of Brantford will begin easing restrictions to certain public spaces beginning tomorrow, while all others will remain closed until further notice.

“While I certainly understand that we all want to get back to our normal way of life, it’s very important we do this gradually and skillfully,” said Mayor Kevin Davis. “Unlike closing everything at once, reopening will be a step by step process to ensure that all the sacrifices and progress we’ve made to protect the health and safety of our community over the last two months isn’t wasted by a spike in cases caused by opening too quickly.”

Beginning Saturday, May 16, 2020:

  • City Parks and Trails Parking Lots will be open – NOTE: All amenities in public parks such as benches and playgrounds remain closed/restricted from public use
  • The public mulch program will be made available to residents for pick up at Cockshutt Park
  • Disc Golf is permissible at Mohawk Park 

Beginning Wednesday, May 20, 2020:

  • Arrowdale Municipal Golf Course will open on Wednesday May 20th at 7:00 am. Patrons are urged to visit brantford.ca/golf for a detailed list of important COVID-19 safety measures and changes to processes that will remain in place for the duration of the season.

Northridge Municipal Golf Course will remain closed until further notice due to ongoing construction of both the parking lot on site and the new Clubhouse. More details regarding the official opening will be shared publicly in the coming weeks.

Assuming trends in key public health indicators continue to improve, the City plans to make additional reopening announcements next Thursday May 21st. In the meantime, we greatly appreciate the public’s continued compliance with respect to closures of non-essential services and activities, that will remain in effect until June 2, 2020.

Important Reminders

  • All amenities in public parks such as benches and playgrounds remain restricted from public use at this time
  • Please continue to stay home if you are not an essential service provider
  • Self-isolation of 14 days is MANDATORY if returning from travel abroad (meaning you cannot be in public for 14 days)
  • Wash your hands frequently for at least 20 seconds
  • Keep a safe physical distance of at least 6 feet or 2 metres from those around you in public at all times
  • Avoid touching your face
  • Do not hug or shake hands with others
  • Do not gather in groups of more than 5 people that you do not live with in your primary residence
