CASE Home Project at Stinson and Stirton Ave

CASE home prototype

BRANTFORD, ON: With over 1,700 households on the community housing waitlist, whereby new non-senior applicants with no dependents make up 40% of the list, the need for more affordable housing in our community has never been more critical.

In 2019 Social Services Committee approved the Brantford Compact, Affordable, Sustainable and Efficient (CASE) Home Demonstration Project that encourages alternative or creative construction and building practices to help achieve low construction costs and to expedite the building process. This much needed development will house tenants who can live independently without support services, and who have been on the affordable housing waiting list for up to 12 years.

Through a request for proposals (RFP) process, Brantford General Contractor and Real Estate Developer, ANC has been selected to build 4 CASE housing units on only the corner portion of the City-owned property extending from Gilkison to the corner of Stinson and Stirton Avenues. This is a demonstration project, using a modular build approach that will be built off site and then assembled on this portion of the property.  In the long-term, this model can be used for small parcels of appropriately zoned City lands for the timely creation of smaller scale housing.

The units feature a unique house design that combines the tiny home approach into 4 self-contained units with the outward appearance of one home that is consistent with the character of other homes in the community. Furthermore, the housing unit will not block access to any nearby trails.

While the lands have already been zoned and approved for the purpose of a 4 CASE housing unit build, residents are always welcome to share any questions our concerns with the City by emailing customercontact@brantford.ca.
