Business pleads guilty to Ontario Fire Code charges

BRANTFORD, ON – A Brantford business was fined $4,000 for multiple offences under the Ontario Fire Code, as a result of a fire safety inspection conducted by Brantford Fire.

907602 Ontario Inc. and Leonard Black who are the owners and operator of The Gentlemen’s Club at 235-239 Market Street in Brantford, Ontario pleaded guilty to several fire code infractions found during a joint inspection on the evening of January 11, 2024. The violations include:

  • Failure to ensure portable fire extinguishers were inspected annually
  • Failure to conduct the annual inspection and testing of the fire alarm system
  • Failure to complete the semi-annual inspection of the commercial kitchen ventilation and fire suppression system

Leonard Black was fined $4,000 plus court costs and 907602 Ontario Inc. was given a suspended sentence in Provincial Offences Court on January 28, 2025.

These convictions highlight the importance of complying with the Ontario Fire Code daily. The goal of property inspections is to ensure occupant safety through education and enforcement of the regulations detailed the Ontario Fire Code and the Fire Protection and Prevention Act.

The Brantford Fire Department reminds property and business owners that they are required to be in compliance with the Ontario Fire Code at all times and failure to do so can result in sizeable fines.
