Brantford breaks ground on new animal shelter at 10 Kraemer’s Way

City of Brantford’s Mayor Kevin Davis and Brantford Councillors break ground on a new state-of-the-art Animal Shelter to be built at 10 Kraemer’s Way in Brantford

Animal Shelter to be built at 10 Kraemer’s Way in Brantford. Once constructed, the much needed facility will provide a host of services for both residents and the local animal population.

The new 7,500 square foot facility will be a vital resource for managing stray, sick, and injured animals and will also provide response services for wildlife-related concerns. Additionally, the shelter will facilitate the removal of deceased animals from public property. The facility will also facilitate adoption programs, provide quarantine space when required, and provide support to animal control and bylaw enforcement officers.

With energy-efficiency and sustainability in mind, the Net Zero ready facility will be able to produce as much energy as it consumes over the course of a year by incorporating future renewable energy source equipment, such as solar panels. The facility will also feature a front lobby, general office and reception areas, adoption spaces for dogs, cats, and small pets, intake and isolation rooms, an exam room, a receiving bay, and outdoor covered dog runs.

-       Brantford Mayor Kevin Davis

“We're constructing a facility that will provide exemplary care for animals in Brantford, ensuring their health and safety through modern, well-equipped services. At the same time, we're designing the building to be Net Zero ready, meaning it will be energy-efficient and capable of generating as much energy as it uses. This approach reduces our carbon footprint while also decreasing long-term operational costs to run the facility.”

-       Jennifer Elliott, Director of Engineering Services

The new Brantford Animal Shelter is expected to be completed by Fall, 2025.
