Brant’s Crossing Bridge reopens to the public

BRANTFORD, ON – The City of Brantford is pleased to announce that the repairs to Brant’s Crossing Bridge are completed and the bridge is now open again for public use. The pedestrian bridge has been closed to the public since the structure was damaged during the 2018 ice jam event.

Before the repairs could be initiated, a series of studies needed to be conducted including a comprehensive structural analysis.  Last year, the City initiated the Three Grand River Crossings Environmental Assessment (EA) to determine the extent of rehabilitative work required on three of the City’s bridges including Lorne Bridge, Brant’s Crossing Bridge, and TH&B Crossing Bridge.

Once the thorough studies were completed, last month work commenced to address damage caused during the ice jam. The repairs included reinforcing the bearings of the bridge, replacing deck panels, and parts of the fencing around the bridge.

“I know the community has been waiting for the bridge to reopen ever since the extreme weather event in 2018 forced the City to close it for public safety reasons,” said Brantford Mayor Kevin Davis. As an historically significant and iconic crossing over the Grand River and an important part of Brantford’s trail network, I am thrilled it is open for the community to use and enjoy the spectacular views once again.”
