Wilkes Dam Bridge Rehabilitation Project

Background

The Wilkes Dam Bridge is situated at the south end of Dufferin Avenue along the SC Johnson Trail. This bridge facilitates pedestrian traffic over the water intake canal that supplies the water treatment plant. In 2022, an Engineering Consultant inspected and evaluated the bridge’s load-carrying capacity following the discovery of deficiencies in the superstructure. The assessment revealed that the existing bridge could no longer safely support the maintenance vehicles necessary for the upkeep of the water intake canal.

Construction

The rehabilitation project is expected to be take place in June / July 2024.
During the construction period, the three parking stalls at the end of Dufferin Avenue at Wilkes Dam, including the accessible parking stall, will be closed. However, pedestrian access to the trail will be maintained throughout the construction.
