The Trews and Suzie McNeil will perform at Brantford’s Canada Day event on July 1

BRANTFORD, ON – The City of Brantford is gearing up for another unforgettable Canada Day on Tuesday, July 1, 2025, at Lions Park Steve Brown Sports Complex. The event will offer an exciting lineup of family-friendly activities, a full day of live musical entertainment including Canadian singer and songwriter Suzie McNeil & The Chain Reaction opening in the evening for headliner, and iconic Canadian rock band, The Trews, followed by a spectacular firework display at 10 p.m.

“We are excited to announce this year’s lineup of iconic Canadian musicians performing at this year’s Canada Day event,” says Dave Carrol, Brantford Canada Day Committee Chair. “We encourage everyone to mark their calendars and invite your friends and family to join us for an event you won’t want to miss.”

The Trews, an iconic Canadian rock band, are comprised of lead vocalist/guitarist Colin MacDonald, lead guitarist John-Angus MacDonald, bassist Jack Syperek, drummer Theo McKibbon, and keyboardist Jeff Heisholt. They have been one of Canada’s most successful rock bands of the past decade, earning 19 Top 10 Rock radio singles (including two #1’s) and multiple Gold and Platinum certified albums. The band has also received multiple East Coast Music Awards, a CIMA Road Gold Award, an Independent Music Award (US) in 2009 for Best Rock / Metal Song, and numerous JUNO Award nominations. The Trews have played thousands of shows worldwide, on their own as well as supporting the Rolling Stones, KISS, Robert Plant, Guns ‘n Roses, Aerosmith, Weezer, Mumford & Sons, Bruce Springsteen, Switchfoot and more.

Suzie McNeil a Canadian Juno Award-winning artist, is a talented and celebrated artist and songwriter. She has performed alongside legends such as Steven Tyler, Jeff Healey, P!nk, INXS. Her 2008 single SuperGirl went gold, peaked at #3 on the charts and was nominated for a Canadian Radio Music Award, a “Best New Artist” JUNO award, and was awarded the Canadian Independent Music award’s “Favorite Pop Artist/Group of the Year.”

In addition to the outstanding music line up, Brantford’s Canada Day event will also feature family-friendly entertainment throughout the day. Families can enjoy entertainment, character meet and greets, thrilling rides at the KidZone Carnival and midway, enjoy delicious eats at local food trucks and peruse marketplace vendors.

Volunteer opportunities

There are several ways for the public to get involved in this year’s Canada Day celebration. The City is currently seeking volunteers to assist with set-up and take-down, parking services (must be 18 or over), clean-up, and other duties as assigned for various events. As a thank you, volunteers will receive a keepsake t-shirt and high school community hours will apply where applicable.

Volunteer applications are available at Brantford.ca/CanadaDayVolunteer and will be accepted until Wednesday, June 21, 2025.
