Nominations are open for the City of Brantford 2025 Environmental Recognition Awards

BRANTFORD, ON – The City of Brantford, in partnership with the City’s Environmental and Sustainability Policy Advisory Committee (ESPAC), is pleased to announce the 2025 Environmental Recognition Awards. The awards recognize and celebrate adults, youths and businesses who have demonstrated environmental leadership.
Nominations are open until 4:30 p.m. on Monday, April 7, 2025. Residents can nominate themselves or anyone else who has demonstrated leadership in projects that resulted in measurable improvements in preservation, conservation, sustainability, education, advocacy, green infrastructure, or environmental clean ups and restoration.
“As Brantford moves toward our net-zero goal by 2050, it’s inspiring to see residents and businesses taking action,” says Brantford Mayor Kevin Davis. “These awards highlight the people making a real difference in sustainability and environmental stewardship in our community.”
There are six award categories:
- Lifetime Achievement: Honours an individual who has made a substantial contribution to environmental initiatives over at least 10 years. This includes achievements in sustainability, education, advocacy, green infrastructure, or environmental cleanups and restoration.
- Green Non-profit in Brantford: Recognizes a government agency, institution, or non-profit organization for its contribution to maintaining a healthy environment. Examples include community gardens, cleanups, restoration of local ecosystems, and efforts to improve the sustainability of products, programs, or operations.
- Green Business in Brantford: Recognizes a business that prioritizes environmental sustainability. This includes businesses leading the way in green practices, sustainable products, and eco-conscious operations that benefit Brantford.
- Greenest Family in Brantford: Recognizes a family for outstanding efforts to reduce its environmental footprint. Actions may include water conservation, energy efficiency, habitat restoration, natural gardening practices, or initiatives that promote neighbourhood-wide environmental awareness.
- Environmental Volunteer: Celebrates individuals who have dedicated unpaid volunteer hours to environmental initiatives, such as tree planting, river cleanups, advocacy, and awareness campaigns.
- Young Environmental Champion Award: Recognizes young leaders who drive environmental change. Eligible projects include school ground naturalization, waste reduction, energy conservation, wildlife protection, fundraising, and education. Students are typically nominated by a teacher, parent, or peer. Awards are available in two categories: Elementary (ages 6 to 13) and Secondary (ages 14 to 18).
Award winners will be announced during the Tuesday, April 29, 2025, City Council meeting. Nomination forms can be completed online at Brantford.ca/EnvironmentalAwards.
