Jaycees Brantford Non-Profit Homes and City break ground on new affordable housing development

BRANTFORD, ON – On Saturday March 8, the City of Brantford was proud to celebrate the groundbreaking of a new initiative to support the development of 24 affordable housing units by Jaycees Brantford Non-Profit Homes at 32 Bridge Street in Brantford. As part of the City’s ongoing commitment to increase access to affordable housing, a pilot program will provide a $1.5 million subsidy to Jaycee Brantford Non-Profit Homes Corporation over the next 10 years.
For more than 40 years, Jaycees Brantford Non-Profit Homes Corporation has provided safe, affordable, and high-quality housing for individuals and families in need. With a strong commitment to fostering inclusive communities, Jaycee Brantford prioritizes long-term housing solutions that enhance quality of life and promote economic stability for residents.
“This partnership with the City of Brantford is a testament to our shared vision of expanding affordable housing opportunities,” said Laurie Macintyre, Executive Director of Jaycees Brantford Non-Profit Homes Corporation. “By working together, we are not only building homes but also strengthening our community and creating a future where safe and affordable housing is accessible to more families. We are incredibly grateful for the City's support in helping us advance this important mission.”
This housing development aligns with the goals of the Brantford-Brant Housing Stability Plan (2014-2024) and contributes directly to the Brantford-Brant Municipal Housing Master Plan (2020-2030), which targets the creation of 843 affordable housing units by 2030. The project will make significant progress toward the goal of 337 units to be developed by non-profit organizations.
Brantford Mayor Kevin Davis emphasized the importance of this initiative, saying, “As housing challenges continue to impact our community, we know we have to think of more innovative solutions to expedite housing builds for those in need. By supporting Jaycees Brantford Non-Profit Homes in their mission to build affordable housing, we are making a meaningful investment in our community’s future and taking another crucial step toward ensuring that families have access to a safe and affordable home.”
With affordable housing a top priority of the City, this collaboration with Jaycees Brantford Non-Profit Homes is an important part of the City's broader strategy to provide transitional and supportive housing for those most in need, including individuals with urgent priority status on the Rent-Geared-to-Income (RGI) waitlist.
