City of Brantford partners with local artists to provide Seniors Art Series

BRANTFORD, ON – The City of Brantford, in collaboration with local artists, is excited to launch the first Seniors Art Series initiative. This series aims to showcase local talent while offering older adults ages 55 and up an opportunity to engage in hands-on, creative expression.
The series features four free programs designed to encourage older adults to explore their creative side through various art forms. All materials will be provided and no prior experience is required to participate.
Creative Collaging takes place on Tuesday, February 18 from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. at Woodman Park Community Centre, 491 Grey St. Create unique personal collages using a variety of materials in a relaxed, judgment-free environment. Learn about the significance of woodland woman paintings while enjoying a relaxing and creative atmosphere at Creating a Masterpiece on Thursday, February 27 from 12 p.m. to 2 p.m. at Woodman Park Community Centre. Watercolour Bookmarks takes place on Monday, March 3 from 10 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. at Woodman Park Community Centre where participants will create beautiful watercolour bookmarks. Take part in gentle fitness moves, line dancing, and enhance your movement skills while singing along to hits from Elvis, Dolly Parton, Neil Diamond, the Beatles, CCR, and popular movie tunes at CROONERcize on Wednesday, March 5 from 2 p.m. to 3 p.m. at T.B Costain - SC Johnson Community, 16 Morrell St.
“I am eager to collaborate with the City of Brantford to provide space to discuss the meaning behind woodlands woman paintings and help seniors create their own artistic masterpiece,” says Alicia-Lynn Morin, local Indigenous artist. “Programs like this, that focus on art and community engagement, are incredibly beneficial to our aging population.”
Space is limited, and registration is required by emailing partnerships@brantford.ca or calling 519-759-4150 ext. 5986 with your name, contact information, and desired activities. Learn more at Brantford.ca/HealthyLiving.
