Brantford Youth Council receives grant to support youth mental wellness

Youth Mental Health Resource Fair

BRANTFORD, ON – The Brantford Youth Council (BYC) has been awarded $1,000 from the Cannabis and Mental Health Project to develop a youth-led initiative aimed at promoting mental wellness for young people in Brantford.

BYC will be hosting a youth mental health resource fair on Friday, December 6, 2024 from 4:30 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at T.B. Costain-SC Johnson Community Centre, located at 16 Morrell Street, Brantford. This free event will include resource sharing from youth-serving mental health organizations and collaborative art making. All youth ages 13 to 25 are welcome to attend. Light refreshments will be provided.

“The Brantford Youth Council is excited to receive project funding that will help their peers learn more about the variety of supports available in our community,” says Taylor Berzins, Community Initiatives Coordinator with the City of Brantford. “The BYC is passionate about diversity, inclusion and advocating for improved access to youth resources.”

The Cannabis and Mental Health Project is a youth and scientist-led project created by the Youth Research & Evaluation Exchange, Mental Health Commission of Canada, Schizophrenia Society of Canada, and Cannabis & Psychosis. The Project aims to educate youth about mental health and substance use through youth-designed resources, a mentorship guide for educators and youth-allies, and the Budding Projects micro-grant program.

The Brantford Youth Council (BYC) is a volunteer group of individuals from ages 13 to 18 that help guide and support the City’s Empowering Youth Strategy, as well as seek out opportunities to develop projects they are passionate about.
