Let’s Clean Our City Photo Contest invest prizes back into the community

BRANTFORD, ON – On April 22 and 23, 2022, over 1,200 community members participated in a community-wide litter cleanup and collected 420 kilograms between the five disposal areas. Participants included individuals, community organizations, neighbourhood associations, local businesses, and schools who were entered for the chance to win prizes through photo submissions of their cleanup efforts. The City of Brantford is proud to share how the Let’s Clean Our City Photo Contest winners have reinvested their prizes back into their community through environmental initiatives and charitable donations to local organizations.

  • The prize for community groups and businesses was $500 to be donated to a local charity of their choice. Hindsight 2020 Optical selected the Why Not Youth Centre to match their winnings for a total donation of $1,000 and the Brant County Health Unit selected the Brantford Food Bank as the recipient of their $500 donation prize.
  • The prize for Neighbourhood Associations was $500 to be spent on an environmental initiative in their neighbourhood. Announcements for the environmental initiatives to be undertaken by the Holmedale and East Ward Echo Place Neighbourhood Associations will be shared on their Facebook pages.

The Let’s Clean Our City campaign is a Clean Brantford initiative aimed at keeping the City free of litter. In January 2020, Brantford City Council approved the Clean Brantford initiative to encourage civic minded citizens to take personal responsibility for cleaning up the city.

Quotes

“Brant County Health Unit (BCHU) staff were eager to participate in the Let’s Clean Our City initiative to not only help to protect our environment but to get involved in the community. BCHU is thankful to be selected as a winner of the City’s photo contest and to receive a $500 donation to a charity of our choice. That’s why we are pleased to have selected the Brantford Food Bank as the recipient of this donation. We are grateful for the opportunity to support the Brantford Food Bank as they work to continue to provide food access to members of the community.”
