Healthy Kids Brantford-Brant program producing great results
Healthy Kids Community Champion Mayor Kevin Davis meets with mascots from Healthy Kids Brantford-Brant to discuss this year’s upcoming programming.
BRANTFORD, ON – The Healthy Kids program continues to demonstrate significant success in changing the culture of children’s health within the community through innovative projects, partnerships and awareness campaigns. Parents whose children have participated in the Healthy Kids program reported improvements in their child’s motivation to participate in physical activity, eat healthy foods and drink more water.
Health and Human Services staff are pleased to announce that Mayor Kevin Davis will join Krista Duchene as a Healthy Kids Community Champion to help promote the program.
“As an active grandfather, I know the importance of the Healthy Kids program,” says Mayor Kevin Davis, City of Brantford. “I am very excited to be an ambassador of such an important initiative that promotes both the physical and mental well-being of children in our community.”
This year, Healthy Kids Brantford-Brant kicks off with the 2019 Passport to Health Challenge from March 9 to 24, 2019. This free passport program provides a chance for families to try a variety of free children’s programs throughout Brantford and the County of Brant.
The popular Healthy Kids programs have been implemented across our communities with different themes such as Run. Jump. Play. Everyday! that launched in September 2015 to encourage physical activity. Water Does Wonders! was added in July 2016 to highlight the importance of drinking water instead of sugar-sweetened beverages and in April 2017, Choose to Boost Veggies and Fruit! increased awareness of nutrition and healthy eating. Most recently, in January 2018, Power Off and Play! encouraged children to reduce screen time in favour of healthier and more active experiences. The Healthy Kids project team has worked with over 200 community partner agencies and businesses to offer and help implement programming across each of the themes.
