City of Brantford tributes to Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II

BRANTFORD, ON: To honour Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II, and consistent with the Department of Canadian Heritage’s national initiative to create a powerful nation-wide visual tribute, Brantford’s Harmony Square and the Sanderson Centre for the Performing Arts will be illuminated in a royal blue hue every evening beginning tonight, until after Her Majesty’s funeral has taken place on Monday September 19^th. All City facility flags will also remain at half-mast until after the funeral service for Her Majesty the Queen, and portraits of the Queen in all municipal buildings will be draped.

On Friday September 9, 2022, the City paid tribute to the late Queen with a public ceremonial flag lowering at Bell Homestead The condolence book for members of the community to sign and pay their respects to the Queen will be available at the Homestead (94 Tutela Heights Rd, Brantford) until September 20, 2022. The Homestead is open this week from 9 a.m. – 12 p.m. and 1 – 4 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday.

The Homestead was chosen to honour the Queen as she herself visited the Homestead on June 28, 1997. On that visit she recognized the achievements in telephony made by Alexander Graham Bell in Brantford, and officially designated the historic Bell Homestead as a Canadian National Historic Site.

Commemorative ceremonies in Canada
