Inspections

It is the responsibility of the person to whom the permit has been issued to let the City’s Building Department know when they are ready for an inspection. A number of inspections at different stages of construction are required by the Ontario Building Code and are listed below

Footing inspection

When the footings are formed in the excavation and before any concrete is poured. (Where clay area exists, A Type 2 (1 1/2") below grade foam should be installed around perimeter foundation.

When the trench/pier holes are excavated for footings and before any concrete is poured.

Foundation and/or weeping tile

After foundation has been stripped of formwork and has been damp-proofed and weeping tile is in place and covered with 6" of stone.

Sewer Rough-In

When the exterior sanitary and storm sewers have been laid and filled with water and are ready for inspection (prior to backfilling).

Plumbing Rough-In

When the plumbing and interior waterlines have been roughed in and filled with water and are ready for inspection.

Framing Inspection

When the roof is shingled and the windows are installed, but before any insulation is installed.

Insulation Inspection

After insulation and vapour barrier is installed, but before wall finish is installed.

Pre-Occupancy

Prior to occupancy of a newly constructed dwelling or addition.

Completion

When all work is completed (Final Inspection).
