New Hospital Now
In October 2024, Brantford City Council established the Brantford Hospital Working Group with a mandate to advocate to the Ontario government for a much-needed new hospital in Brantford. Through a campaign grounded in partnerships with corporate, community, and media stakeholders, the Working Group's goal is to urge the Premier and the Ontario Ministry of Health to prioritize funding for a new Brantford hospital facility in the 2025 Ontario Budget.
Why we need a new hospital
The populations within Brantford General Hospital’s catchment area, including the City of Brantford, the County of Brant, the Six Nations of the Grand River, and the Mississaugas of the Credit First Nation, are growing rapidly and already exceed the capacity of the current Brantford hospital facility.
In the past five years, Brantford General Hospital's catchment area has grown by nearly 11% with population growth continuing to accelerate. New residents are increasingly choosing Brantford and surrounding communities as their home, yet our hospital facilities are not equipped to support this rapid expansion. The existing hospital is both outdated and undersized, lacking the space and resources to meet current needs and projected growth effectively.
Brantford General Hospital's outdated and undersized facilities lack the space and resources to effectively meet the needs of priority populations, such as seniors, children, individuals facing mental health and addiction challenges, and those requiring accessibility accommodations.
A new, state-of-the-art hospital facility would provide:
- Improved access to healthcare services for all residents
- Modern equipment and facilities to ensure the best possible care
- Expanded capacity to accommodate our growing population
- Enhanced emergency services to reduce wait times
