Downtown Revitalization Project Environmental Assessment
As part of the Downtown Brantford Revitalization project and the City’s plan to create a more attractive and sustainable core that supports increased economic development and growth, we are pleased to have completed a Class Environmental Assessment (EA) for Downtown Streetscaping.
The Downtown Streetscaping EA focused on finding solutions to improve walkability, accessibility, and underground infrastructure to allow for additional development, enhance the infrastructure for all transportation modes, and increase pedestrian capacity. The EA was approved by City Council in June 2022.
The project will renew and improve the economic, physical, and social well-being of Brantford’s downtown by:
- Making Downtown Brantford a destination place;
- Enhancing infrastructure for all transportation modes including pedestrians, cyclists, and transit users; and
- Improving accessibility and safety in the core.
The Downtown Brantford Revitalization project will create a vibrant urban centre in the core, one that is defined by a beautiful streetscape that is both aesthetically attractive and accessible to all residents. Streetscaping is a key element in downtown revitalization that will help to improve the experience for pedestrians, cyclists, and motorists. Elements such as street furniture, wayfinding, sidewalks, and so many more will be enhanced to provide a pleasant experience for all visitors to the downtown.
Work like this doesn’t happen overnight. It takes years to study, engage with the community, plan for, and implement a generational renewal of municipal downtown infrastructure. This means construction and related disruptions, and we are committed to phasing and carrying out this work in a way that minimizes the impacts to people living, working, and visiting Downtown Brantford.
